Survey: Sustainability in Logistics Takes a Back Seat to Vehicle Upkeep

Image
The green movement is no longer a priority in the logistics industry, with a recent Tech.co survey showing that business owners aren’t focused on sustainability at the moment. In 2025, the logistics industry is fending off problems left and right. From the stress of tariffs to the looming trucker shortage , the economics of being a logistics business owner are far from relaxing. As a result, the focus on going green has taken a back seat to more pressing matters, like vehicle upkeep, financial stability, and staffing. Survey Shows Sustainability Not a Priority In a recent survey from Tech.co, logistics professionals were asked to list out their priorities as a business. Unfortunately, going green fell pretty far down the list, with only 7% of respondents stating that “sustainability initiatives” were a priority for the business in the near future. Of those that are focusing on sustainability, the priority still lies in creating green solutions that can also save busines...

Wild chickens take over Miami while some embrace roosters as a cultural symbol

MIAMI (AP) — Flamingos, pelicans, herons and parrots are just a few of the wild birds that call Miami home, but it’s the roosters, hens and baby chicks that have come to rule the roost in recent years. Not only found in residential neighborhoods like Little Havana, Little Haiti and Wynwood, the fowl families are also making their home among the high-rises and government buildings downtown. And while some people find the crowing to be a nuisance, many have adopted the rooster as an unofficial mascot for the city. A piece of home Paul George, the resident historian at HistoryMiami Museum, said the chickens are closely connected to the people who have moved to Miami over the decades. For a long time, the domesticated birds were mostly kept in backyards, but George began to notice their feral cousins wandering in public areas about 20 years ago. He said the chickens have a cultural connection to people who grew up in rural areas of Cuba and other parts of Latin America: “They’ve always...

An Oregon man who quit his job to set sail with his cat arrives to cheering fans in Hawaii

HONOLULU (AP) — An Oregon man who quit his job at a tire company and liquidated his retirement savings to set sail for Hawaii with his cat, Phoenix, reached his destination Saturday, welcomed by cheering fans at the end of a weekslong journey that he documented for his mass of followers on social media. Oliver Widger, who also was greeted by Hawaii Gov. Josh Green at the Waikiki Yacht Club on Oahu, acknowledged he was nervous facing the crowd, which included reporters. Widger said he was feeling “really weird” — not seasick, but, “I just feel like I have to, like, hold on to things to not fall over.” He became an online sensation with his story, which followed a diagnosis four years ago with a syndrome that carried a risk of paralysis and made him realize he disliked his managerial job. He quit his job with “no money, no plan” and $10,000 of debt — and the goal of buying a sailboat and sailing around the world. He taught himself to sail mostly via YouTube and moved from Portland to ...

French Woman Stuck with English Accent 11 Years after Tonsil Surgery

Image
A 47-year-old woman from Western France has been speaking with a distinctively English accent ever since she had her tonsils removed 14 years ago. Laetitia, a cashier from Montval-sur-Loir, in France’s Sarthe Department, doesn’t speak English. She only knows some basic words that she learned in school decades ago, but hearing her speak in her native tongue would have you believe she was born in England. For 14 years, Laetitia has been speaking with an English accent that makes most people think she is Anglo-Saxon. But the truth is much stranger – the 47-year-old woman has been stuck with her English accent ever since she woke up from a tonsil removal surgery. Her children had gone through the same procedure before, and they talked in a nasal voice, but it went away after a few days, so she wasn’t too worried in the beginning, but as the weeks passed, her weird accent remained just as strong. Image
According to a recent study, tech executives are eager to improve their businesses with agentic AI , the more capable and dynamic AI technology compared to the traditional chatbot. Tech leaders, while optimistic about AI, revealed their biggest concern to be data security and privacy. Microsoft Is Laying Off 3% of Its Workforce

Image
The tech industry layoffs show no signs of stopping: Microsoft has just announced job cuts for 3% of its total workforce, across all levels, teams, and locations. Microsoft says that these new layoffs are due to “organizational changes.” Last January, Microsoft’s previous round of layoffs was tied to performance, but that’s not the case this time. The news comes after the tech giant had reported better results than expected in late April, with $25.8 billion in quarterly net income. About 6,000 Jobs Will Be Lost Microsoft had about 228,000 employees around the globe as of last year. The impacted workers will likely total around 6,000, and will include all areas of the company, including the LinkedIn team. It’s the biggest round of job cuts from the company since a 2023 layoff that cost 10,000 workers their positions. According to a spokesperson, Microsoft aims to “reduce layers of management” with these latest cuts. AI was not mentioned.   This just in! View th...

Cannes makes it official: No nudity on the red carpet

CANNES, France (AP) — The Cannes Film Festival red carpet is perhaps the most rigidly controlled red carpet in the world. Now, the festival has added a new stipulation: no nudity. While nudity was never previously endorsed at the festival, Cannes updated its dress policy on the eve of its 78th edition to read that “nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival.” While a no-shirt-no-service policy is standard in places far less glamorous than Cannes, the policy tweak sparked widespread attention Monday because of the recent trend of sheer and “nude dresses, ” such as Bianca Censori's Grammys appearance. Asked for clarity on the policy, Cannes press officers said the festival “made explicit in its charter certain rules that have long been in effect.” “The aim is not to regulate attire per se, but to prohibit full nudity on the red carpet, in accordance with the institutional framework of the event and French law,” it said. Cannes also noted...

Alligators, snakes, biting insects: Small plane crash survivors recall 36-hour ordeal

LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) — It was after their tiny plane crashed into the Bolivian jungle earlier this week that their ordeal really began. After smashing into the ground, the aircraft flipped over into a lagoon infested with anacondas and alligators, plunging the pilot and four passengers — including a 6-year-old boy — into a harrowing 36 hours spent clinging to the plane’s wreckage before being rescued Friday in the northeast of this Andean nation. The doctor who treated the five survivors told The Associated Press on Saturday all were conscious and in stable condition, with only the young boy's 37-year-old aunt still hospitalized for an infected gash to her head. The rest were discharged and recovering from dehydration, minor chemical burns, infected cuts, bruises and insect bites all over their bodies. “We couldn't believe it, that they weren't attacked and left for dead,” Dr. Luis Soruco, director of the hospital where the survivors were delivered in Bolivia’s tropical ...
